Fall Festival
This is the first community building event of the school year, held on a weekend day in October or November. The Fall Festival is funded by and brought to you by the DNPA, with parent volunteers who organize activities and food. The school campus is transformed, and typically includes a pumpkin patch, arts and crafts, music, and games for the kids.
There is typically a cost for the event, to cover costs for food, etc. The Fall Festival is structured to pay for itself and any positive financial contribution goes back to the Duck’s Nest community.
Kindergarten Info Night
Kindergarten Information Night is an annual event geared toward our Pre-K classrooms, to help families navigate the Kindergarten enrollment and readiness process. A representative from the Berkeley Unified School District will help parents understand the lottery system. In addition, we will have parents speak to the independent school enrollment process. Melanie and Sinian will also present “Kindergarten Readiness” and offer guidance on how to pick the right school for your child.Harrison House Food Drive & Harrison House Toy Drive
The Harrison House is a local family shelter here in West Berkeley. Duck’s Nest has partnered with them for over 15 years. The DNPA has a tradition of collecting donations for Thanksgiving Dinner and the Mallard and Mandarin classes create and deliver the table center pieces for their holiday dinner.
In addition, the DNPA organizes a holiday gift drive for the children of the Harrison House. This year we will be collecting linens, socks, toiletries, umbrellas, and other supplies for the adults who live at the shelters; as well as dolls and stuffed animals for the kids!
Bakesales, Thanksgiving Pie Sale, Savory Sale and more!
This is a fairly new fundraising area, brought to you by the DNPA Bakesale Committee! The committee has been incredible at pooling the baking skills of our community and providing wonderful homebaked goods. The bakesales have been incredibly successful and we look forward to continuing the tradition!

Our biggest Fundraiser of the year! Time to paint the town! This year's Gala will be held at Donkey and Goat Winery, owned by parents in our Duck's Nest community. And it's practically around the corner from the school, on 5th street in Berkeley! The Gala is an adult-only event where parents have a chance to relax and talk while enjoying good food, live music, and local wine and beer. The event includes an auction, with all proceeds benefitting the DNPA to help fund community building events, teacher appreciation, neighborhood efforts, as well as the annual school grant for 2016-17.
Teacher Appreciation Dinner
Every year the DNPA hosts an appreciation dinner for the teachers. It is a great way for them to hang out together at the end of the school year, and it is our way to thank them for all their creativity, passion, kindness, patience, and dedication. In the past, the dinner has been at Bette’s Diner, The Hotsy Totsy, and even Melanie’s House. This year's location has not yet been determined. Let us know if you have a connection to a local restaurant, or caterer that you would like us to consider!
New Families Brunch
The DNPA hosts a brunch during the summer to welcome new Duck's Nest families into our community. The brunch is held on a weekend day, and is an opportunity for new parents to visit the school with their children, meet other incoming families, as well as meet current Duck’s Nest families.
